remember also, the K index reported on wwv is only updated every 3
hours. The A
and SF values are only updated once a day at 21z(yes, sometimess they
update the
A at 00z but not very often). i don't particularly care for the A index at all
since at 21z when it is reported it is calculated from the last 8 K index
readings in boulder, so it contains data that is 24 hours old when it is first
posted.
the graphs that update every 5 minutes at http://www.sec.noaa.gov/today.html
show short events like that long before they show in the wwv report(if they
ever
do). also if you watch the K index graph at that url you will see it often
differs from what wwv reports, that is because the web page shows the estimated
Kp (planetary K index) rather than just the reading from one site (boulder)
reported on wwv.
