You can get shipping cases for just about anything... it all depends on the
dimensions of the equipment. The internal dimensions of the Pelican 1650
case are 28 L x 18 W x 10.5 H (this is without foam) . You should allow 2
inches of foam in ALL directions, so your equipment needs to be
significantly smaller than those dimensions. If larger, you will need to go
to other types of ATA shipping cases.
The advantage of the Pelican cases is their versitility and strength, and if
you shop around you can find them for no more than the cost of name-brand
hard-sided luggage (which falls apart too easily). Also, the Pelican cases
are used by photographers, divers etc, and are actually fairly common items
at airports.
The next step would be to go to the web and do a search on "shipping cases".
There are tons of manufacturers and on-line suppliers. Unfortunately if you
have a large piece of equipment, often the case looks like one of those
"professional" shipping cases, and attracts attention at airports. But if
you have no choice...
One place that seems to have good prices on the Pelican case (as well as
other cases) is: http://www.cases4less.com/index.html The 1650 WITHOUT
foam is $155.96 Though many places sell the same case for $100 more.
