After 4 years of being chief cook and bottle washer of a contest which
started as a joke on a RTTY Reflector and which he turned into a short,
fast, fun, and requiring 3 hands RTTY contest called the "Internet Sprint",
Barry, W2UP, said he was willing to turn the chief cook business over to
someone else.
The RTTY Contesting Fraternity owes Barry a big vote of thanks for all the
work he has done in providing us with a lot of fun over the past 4 years.
With Barry's impending retirement, several RTTY Contesters who really
enjoyed the contest had e-mail going trying to figure out how to keep the
contest alive and who was going to do what. In light of Barry's structuring
of the contest, (after the NCJ CW/SSB Sprints), it was thought perhaps the
NCJ might be approached to incorporate the RTTY Sprint into their CW/SSB
Sprint packages. The NCJ enthusiastically received the idea and the NCJ RTTY
Sprint was born. The following is a listing of the major changes from the
Internet Sprint into the NCJ RTTY Sprint:
1) Will be twice a year instead of annual
2) 4 hour duration instead of 2
3) 3 bands, 80-40-20 instead of 80-40
4) NCJ Plaques and certificates
5) Saturday evenings 0000z to 0400z
6) Team Competition
7) Scoring: multiply total valid contacts by sum of US States, Canadian
Provs., and other NA Countries. KH6 is not a NA State nor Country but is DX
for qso credit, KL7 is a NA State.
These are the major differences. For complete Rules and Regulations for the
NCJ RTTY/CW/SSB Sprints, Check the following web-sites:
