I cannot take it any longer.....I am caving in to reflector pressure....
Dear KE9NA,
In order for you to understand why your partial call sign method is worse I
encourage you to do the following and report back to this reflector on your
results.
Take a major upcoming phone contest....lets say NAQP.
Look at last years top ten box to see who the big scorers were.
Pick a station to listen to that is a high scorer...someone like an N7TR
Go to his run frequency and start your tape recorder...record a significant
amount of time..,..mebbe 15 minutes of him running hot and heavy.
After the contest is over take that tape and transcribe it. Along with a
stop watch re-speak the QSOs made - this time after N7TR finishes his QSO
emulate last twoers, do not send any full calls...just last two or three of
suffix...(WHICH MANDATE A REQUEST FOR A FULL CALLSIGN BE SENT< AS WELL AS
RENDERING THE INITIAL PARTIALLY SENT CALLSIGN A WASTE OF "NA's" TIME.
Okay how much time did it take with the "not so shorter" calls....
KE9NA needs to be invited to a major contest multi-op to witness a good
operator doing it right to fully appreciate WHY this is important.
N9RV once posted here that contesting is ultimately a high received and an
anticipation of that same high when you can run fast. This is the essence
of why contesters are down on "last twoers" - the efficiency of the running
station is almost always limited by the guys on the other end.
After investing in grade A choice filtering and antennas and transceivers,
not to mention who knows how much sweat equity, the top gun contest station
is ready to generate bodacious runs...as long as the other stations are
accommodating. Most big time guys know what their best hour ever was
instinctively, and every contest they hope to break that personal
best...they have done what it takes form their end, leave it to poor
operating habits on the other end, be it excessive verbiage or partial calls
to spoil the dream.
That sir, is what is wrong with the last two.
These reflectors serve to act as libraries of knowledge for you all to
reference...I hope the knowledge garnered here is that if you keep your
exchanges crisp and to the point everybody has a higher rate, a bigger score
and, oh my - more fun!
No cutesy callsigns........on Field Day some bozo called KS9O with XXX
Motorcycleclub.....when asked for his call with other phonetics the response
was "what you can't figure it out????" Some people do not have a clue.
Rate rules....I guarantee yours will improve with more efficient operating.
And your enjoyment of contesting will escalate,
