I don't agree with the above statements neither I understand where
the problems are with cw/ssb point rates and with the MS time on.
The 10m contest is already a great contest like it is, and it's
great and balanced to evaluate cw for double points.
At an ssb rate of 4-6 qso/min, common to next years to good ops,
who shall be so crazy to waste time on cw other than for mults if
the cw score isn't at least double than ssb ? Noone competitively
entering a mixed mode, is the answer.
Just to point out something that might be eventually rearranged in
a different way we could talk about qso value.
Until each qso counts like any other qso, some world areas are
definitely more penalized and there is no incentive to grow stations
efficiency and operator's ability.
Concerning time on, it happens that 10m contest take place in mid
december were in austral emisphere is late spring (long long days)
but nearly winter in the boreal one with the longest nights of the
of the year. 10m openings are consequently the shortest possible.
Having a single band that's mostly useful from sunrise to sunset
what shall we do, europeans, north americans an japanese, listen to
some south american striking anyone else out from that area up to
48 hours or so ??
Transequatorial paths are the most valid but there is no comparison
by ham-population, so, working Africa and Oceania and south America
can't produce anyway high qso numbers and rates.
A 10m contest with no time limits would be perfectly tailored for
South Americans, close to winter equinox and midway south from
Europe, USA & Japan.
