Despite coming down with the flu just in time for the contest, this was my
best WW yet. I managed 556 Qs and 511,488 points as SO LP Unassisted.
Finally having a tower and beam is great after years of verticals and
various wire antennas. 80m perplexes me though. S9 Eu signals could not hear
me calling them. I've only got 100 watts, and a Cushcraft vertical or 87'
half sloper, but jeez, you'd think they'd hear something. But I've always
had this problem on 80m.
Holding a CQ frequency with LP is quite difficult. Not more than a few
times, my run frequency was commandeered by a big gun. I know that most of
time I wasn't being heard by them (I hope...), but a couple times I know
they heard me. Heck, a ZK1 answered me on 15m only to be called by a
stateside guy after I finished with him. Then the ZK1 kept the frequency! I
tell ya, I get no respect.
My biggest hindrance is my inability to type fast. Hunt and Peck while
receiving 40 wpm CW becomes very difficult. I used my F9 <?> a few times.
Typing lessons are on my To Do list.
Well, I see you all in the 160m test this weekend!
