First report: Pennsylvania QSO Party
Outstanding - although many of you probably never heard us! Solar flare or
??? caused absolutely awful conditions - 40 meters only open in spurts, 20
meters was a sea of static and signals were in and out similar to meteor
scatter on vhf!
BUT, if you were within earshot of Pennsylvania on 80/75 meters, you would
have heard wall to wall stations from the Keystone State. Many records were
reported, many stations worked all 67 counties, and big scores heard coming
out of VE and nearby northeast and mid-atlantic sections. Also, have no
fear, the NNY stations were around in droves which bodes well for the SS and
the new section.
Hard counties to find were: Franklin, Warren, Philadelphia!, Northumberland
and Juniata - (that's NOT Juanita but June - e - ata). Expeditions to Elk,
Cambria, Fulton, Fayette, Potter, Delaware Co, Indiana, Snyder, Cameron,
Clinton, Huntingdon, and others made a clean swap easily attainable. Also,
big club participation - who is going to take the trophy this year??
So, if you couldn't hear Pennsylvania because of conditions, we are sorry as
you missed a "really big" do! Hopefully, condx will improve for CQWW and SS
- they can't possibly be any worse than this past weekend.
Please send in your logs (Nittany ARC, c/o W3HDH, RD #1, Box 760,
Petersburg, Pa. 16669). Rumors and early results to follow - and our
HomePage when I get time to get it up and running!

Subject: New country files for CT, NA dated 14 October 1996
Message-ID: <199610150248.WAA24297@mailnfs0.tiac.net>
I have uploaded new country files for CT and NA. I am announcing this on
CQ-Contest for two reasons:
1. There was a recent message indicating that people on the CQ-Contest
reflector didn't know where to find the current files. Since I only
announce them on the CT-User and NA-User reflectors, I have to assume that
some people who use that software don't subscribe to those reflectors (a
bad idea, IMHO).
2. In case anyone has NOT noticed, the VE7TCP server has been very sick
the past couple of weeks. (That's why the DX reflector has been down).
This also knocks those two mailing lists out of commission.
Here's where you can find the country files:
CT country files:
ftp://boss.databook.com/AD1C/cty.zip [East Coast USA]
-or-
ftp://ftp.jzap.com/pub/ct-files/cty.zip [West Coast USA]
Send E-mail to ct-user-REQUEST@databook.com and put one or more
of the following commands in the BODY of the message:
GET cty.uue
GET cty.dat
GET history.cty
GET cqww.cty
The first command will send CTY-605.ZIP in UUencoded format.
The other commands send the individual files.
Note that file names must be in lower case.
Download CTY-605.ZIP from the DX BBS - 502-898-8864.
CTY-605 may show up on the CT BBS some day, but not today.
NA country files:
ftp://boss.databook.com/AD1C/nacty.zip
Send E-mail to ct-user-REQUEST@databook.com and put one or more
of the following commands in the BODY of the message:
GET nacty.uue
GET country.dat
GET history.cty
The first command will send NACTY605.ZIP in UUencoded format.
The other commands send the individual files.
Note that file names must be in lower case.
Download NACTY605.ZIP from the LTA BBS - 412-528-8877.
*NOTE* that the directory on boss.databook.com is *protected*.
If you try a "dir" command, you will see no files. That is OK!
Finally, here is the revision history. Please send any questions to
AD1C@tiac.net

Subject: New MASTER.DTA for CT (and other?) users
Message-ID: <199610150317.XAA30179@mailnfs0.tiac.net>
I have uploaded a new MASTER.DTA file to use during CQWW. This is a
database of known-good callsigns and is useful for Super Check Partial.
Since VE7TCP is down, the file can be found at:
ftp://boss.databook.com/AD1C/master.zip [East Coast USA]
ftp://ftp.jzap.com/pub/ct-files/master.zip [West Coast USA]
Send E-mail to ct-user-REQUEST@databook.com, and in the body
of the message, put the line:
GET master.uue
This will send the MASTER.ZIP file UUencoded.
Here are the statistics:
The database was compiled from 773 logs encompassing contests from
1994-1996. The contests include ARRL DX, CQWW, CQ WPX, IARU HF
Championship, WAE and a few ARRL SS logs.
There are 12,450 callsigns listed in the database. These are callsigns
that were found in at least 20 different logs. 8850 callsigns are DX, and
3600 are USA.
The top-12 callsigns (DX and USA) are:
1925 9A1A 702 K3LR
1721 NP4Z 635 K3WW
1468 IQ4A 575 K3ANS
1390 EI7M 515 N2RM
1302 LU4FM 505 KY1H
1200 XE2DV 497 W3LPL
1169 HH2PK 494 W6QHS
1158 8P9Z 484 W0AIH
1157 6D2X 484 KC1XX
1153 TI1C 479 N4ZC
1122 TM1C 474 NC0P
1104 V31DX 474 N5RZ
Any of these calls look familiar?
I will probably update MASTER.DTA at least once more (the
weekend of October 19-20) as I receive more logs. I will send an
annuncement to CQ-Contest when I do.
If you snail mailed me a disk with return postage, I will mail you
the updated MASTER.DTA on Wednesday morning, 10/16.
Please send any questions or comments to AD1C@tiac.net

Subject: C'mon guys
Message-ID: <199610150435.VAA00132@lady.axian.com>
I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!
I am SICK and TIRED of receiving messages on the reflector that
start with things like:
Joe -
or
Tom -
or any other name!!! These messages should be addressed to
the person you are talking to, NOT the whole reflector.
If someone asks for something on the reflector (like where they
can find some piece of information in the FAQ or the e-mail address
for Kenwood's Truck Stop Marketing department), don't compound
their mistake by answering their question on the whole list.
PLEASE learn how to send messages ONLY back to the person who
originated the message. You can start right now by sending
your flames ONLY to me and not the whole list!!
