Jay

It's bad enough that your gonna try this, but if you insist
Tape record the whole affair and hand log it later.

     5) Scoring:
          (A) QSO points: Count two points for each complete two-way QSO. No
cross-mode contacts. Work each station only once, regardless of the frequency
band.

...

Stations won't be able to work you again even if you change sections (and
you certainly aren't supposed to work them again).

Got a question for all you antenna guru's and engineers out there :

Put up my 160 meter inverted L last week. It's a 130 foot wire with
about 60 feet of it vertical and the rest of it sloping at a 45 degree
angle toward the ground. Right now it has one 1/4 wave elevated radial
    with plans for 3 more.

My question is : should I try to make the sloping part of the antenna
more horizontal instead of sloping down at an angle ? Is it hurting the
performance by configuring it this way ? The published antenna literature
I've read doesn't really say anything about this.

                                       thanks Jeff KU8E

I don't know about what the rules allow. But let's assume that when you
cross section boundaries, you can re-work stations on the same band. Even
if it turns out not to be the case in SS, it is true in other contests.

With Trlog, I have found the way to add what would normally be a dupe
is to add "/" followed by unique characters. In particular, I use
/M the first time, then /M2, then /M3 and so on. I use this when its
really valid to work a station again, and when a previous (true) dupe
insists on a new contact. In the latter case I have to manually fix
the score part of the log.

Maybe the other log software also allows this.

What would really be nice if you (the moving target) sent a unique id
as you changed sections. For example, KN5H/M1 from Texas, KN5H/M2 from
Oklahoma, etc. This would serve three purposes: 1) When I mindlessly enter
what I copy, the computer doesn't distract me by beeping and erasing your
call; 2) Your call stays reasonably short (you could use state abbrev but it
may make it sound like you're dx); and 3) The "M1" the first time I work
you alerts me to keep an ear out for you when I s&p. That is, you sent the
"M1" cause you soon plan on being in section "M2".

I would like to see something like the above become the convention.

Dear Jay,

As an experienced CW mobile operator, my VERY STRONG recommendation is DON'T
DO IT. Not worth it.

It is very easy to get distracted and next thing you are in trouble. DO NOT
TRY TO LOG! If you want to operate, fine. Use a memory keyer which takes
care of your number, like the CMOS II. Don't worry about writing down the
other station's exchange. The only safe way to do it would be to use a tape
recorder.

As Mark Twain said, "It is better to be careful a hundred times than to be
killed once."
