Living on a small lot in a city with restrictions,
my antennas are a compromise. Somehow, a KT-34A
and 40M2A fit on my short tower. Unfortunately,
these two antennas are not separated far and are
both oriented in the same direction (KLM does NOT
recommend this, but that's the way it is).
Approximate height of antennas is 35', 5' apart.
(any ideas re ground/terrain effects over AZ desert?)
Being a small-time contester, I am very interested
in finding out any effects to my elevation pattern
and gain caused by interaction. Definitely some
SWR on 15m, noticed little else so far.
It MAY be possible to orient 90 degrees apart for a
significant improvement (interested in sound analysis
or simulation). Reorienting greatly increases the
"aesthetic impact" since both have 16' booms and line
up "real pretty."
Gurus, how do I go about performing this sort of analysis?
BTW: A local ham has EZNEC, YO, AO, and NECWIRES. He'd let
me go over and play with his computer or I'll purchase
good programs if warranted. (he just models low 40m
wire beam arrays w/no other interactions)

Seeing a message from Columbus, Ohio makes me think of what happened last
night...
I was wandering around Antwerp after dinner with a bunch of folks from
the office, and I saw a guy a half-block away enter the street and start
walking away, and he was wearing a sweatshirt that said on the front, in
giant letters, W8LT. I thought, this is unbelievable!
But I didn't recognize the guy, and my group was moving the other way,
so I didn't bother to run after him. About ten minutes later we showed
up in the same place as this guy, and he wasn't facing my direction,
so I kinda barged into the area where he was standing to check out this
shirt, at which point I realized it said W<. Oops.
As Miss Emily Litella would say: nevermind.

Can anyone point me to the issue of NCJ that contained
the interface circuit used to control the Kenwood TS-850

There are times in our personal lives when opportunities that are
simply too good to pass up present themselves. Such an occurrence
has happened to me in recent days. Effective September 16th, I will
be joining Cerulean Technology in Marlborough, MA with the
responsibility of directing Product Marketing for the company.
The opportunity at Cerulean meets several needs for our family. Not
only does it afford us the opportunity to return to our geographic
roots in New England, but it also enables me to return
technologically as well. While my tenure at CQ has been extremely
rewarding, my fundamental interests and background have always been
with high technology.
A change such as this may create some questions in your mind. For
those who are interested, I intend to continue my role as CQ
Contest Column editor. In addition, my departure from CQ will have
no impact on the future viability of CQ Contest magazine. That
future will be, as it always has been, driven by your support and
desire to continue to subscribe.
Finally, I can only say the highest words of praise for CQ.
Professionally, the past four years have been some of the best I
have ever enjoyed. On a personal level, one could not find a better
group of people to work with, beginning with CQ's publisher, Dick
Ross, K2MGA. I wish them all the success in the future.

communications problems as I commute back and forth to
