There was a fair amount of interest in a summary of the
information I received from my query about Rohn and tower supplies
sources in the NW US. Here is what I received:
-------------------------------------------------------
I got 6 45G sections, a 45AG4 top section, an SB45G base section,
and misc. brackets/hardware/guy anchors from National Tower last
year and the freight was <$200. I thought this was quite
reasonable, especially considering the unit prices from the locals
here in EPA/NJ.
The freight charge is essentially an "X + (N*Y)" equation where X
is rather large, N is some quantity relationship, and Y is rather
small. Given this, freight for 10 parts is only mildly higher
than the charge for one. It's god-awful expensive to order a
single section from National (or Texas et al) but the quantity
shipping charges get very acceptable on big orders.
Think about it, the driver gets paid the same and uses roughly the
same amount of fuel whether he carries one or 50 sections.
-------------------------------------------------------
give Northwest Communications Distributors a call. They are
located in Boise, ID. I have not bought from them personally, but
they claim
to carry the full Rohn line. They just recently delivered some
sections of Rohn 45 for a tower here at work. Their number is
1-800-333-7409,
ask for Patty or Rick. I hope this helps!
-------------------------------------------------------
Call Stan Griffiths, W7NI at (503) 649-0837
-------------------------------------------------------
I have found THE BEST place for Rohn tower and accessories is S&S
Electronics in Fargo, N.D. They have THE LOWEST prices anywhere,
better than Texas Towers, Burghardts, etc. They also help find
the least expensive way to ship.
I don't have their phone number, but they are listed. They do
have an 800 number. Ask for Kirk. He is the tower "expert". Hope
this helps!
------------------------------------------------------
I suggest you order from Steve Morris, K7LXC in Snohomish
Washington, I believe his address is upthetower@aol.com
------------------------------------------------------
call stan w7ni at 503-649-0837 he is a rohn dealer in the pdx area
------------------------------------------------------
... I've purchased Rohn stuff from Ross Distributing in Preston,
ID ... Ross is at (208)852-0830. He usually drop-ships from the
Rohn warehouse in Reno. Also, there is a rep in Boise who is a
Rohn dealer ... don't have phone number right now, BUT call Russ
Elsworth (WA6CWB) at (800)365-1272 (FINE folks! ... Carolyn will
most likely answer) and he can tell you the name/number.
------------------------------------------------------
Steve , Stan is the only one I know of other than K7LXC.
------------------------------------------------------
There you have it. Many thanks to all who replied (I think I was
able to thank you all individually; if I missed someone it was
purely unintentional). I have corresponded with both Stan
Griffiths and Steve Morris, and as the subscribers to the contest
and tower reflectors know, they are both extremely helpful and
really nice guys. I haven't gotten too far calling down the list
of leads -- as luck would have it my question turned up the big
pieces (8 sections of 45G) as part of an estate settlement, with
delivery to my house at a very reasonable cost. I may get this
tower done before the new year!
Thanks again and 73,
