The August 1996 North American QSO Party CW contest is this weekend from
1800Z Saturday, August 3 to 1800Z Sunday, August 4. The SSB test is 1800Z
August 17 to 1800Z August 18.

Anyone have two or more receivers multicoupled to
the same, simultanious use, antenna? It is very common
at VHF/UHF and higher, but have never heard of it
at HF. Multicouplers at UHF and microwaves usually
consist of a very low noise figure, wide-band preamp,
which drives a signal divider/distribution system to the
receivers. Obviously, not used for xmitting.
Maybe not needed at HF? That is, just divide the
incomming signal to the two rigs; what about LO
isolation, etc. Also, without a preamp, loose
3dB of siganl strength to each rig, since it is split.
Actually, I have parallel dipoles; four of them fed with
the same feed line: on 30, 40, 80, and 160. Would like
to feed two rigs from the common line, and say have one
rig listening on 40, the other on one of the other bands.
Maybe split the feed line to two antenna tuners, then tweak
the separate tuners for 50 ohm matches to each separate
rig on a different band. Then, would all the energy coming
down the line from a particular band's antenna go via the
optimized tuner to the desired receiver only, therefore loosing
none of the energy to splitting?
Maybe, could rig up some switching
which, when it is time to transmit, the multicoupling scheme
is bypassed with the feed line going direct only to the desired
transmitting rig--tuner/transceiver set? Only want to put out
one signal from this QTH at any one time; not looking for
a multiband simultanious transmit set up.
Any ideas or solutions used in the past? My QTH is such that
I just see no way to not use a single feed line; maybe I could run
four lines up to the feed point; and separate the feed points a few
inches from one another, but then would have to set up multiple
position coax switches to steer a given antenna to the desired rig
set up, which seems to be the common solution for multiband
operation. But, I am using 72 ohm (very close spaced Amelco
twin line) feed to the dipoles. Even with this line, wherein the
RF field is very tightly confined, running multi lines close together
to a closely spaced feed dipole leg take off point, might cause
all sorts of interactions!! Already have to tweak the four dipoles a
lot to get each where I want it in each of the bands. Now come down
the line to an Amidon 1.5:1 balun, then to a hofi coax switch and
into the tuner. Use another hofi at the output of the tuner to select
the desired rig; but one rig sits completely idle with no input signal
with this set up.

The eagle eye of NV6O <some would say beady, and they would also say
N4BO...> noticed I had goofed with the times for the NAQP's. Eric is the
only person to pass the "Are they really reading all this stuff?" test.
The proper hours for both NAQP's are 1800Z-0600Z. Each contest is 12 hours
maximum, with single ops allowed to operate only 10 of the 12 hours, minimum
off times are 30 minutes, all to be annotated both in your log and on your
summary sheet <see rules for further detail.>

Undersrtand the FCC has announced that with the opening
of Gate 2 for Vanity Calls, an FCC web-form 610-V/page
will be set up, linked to Gettysburg. Calls can be applied
for via the internet this way. Anyone have any info about
this? Will we enter a charge card number to the FCC? Or,
what is their planned fee payment method with this approach?
Also, the call you actually get, can be discovered and verified
with the FCC from the same web site a few days later, so
