Dunno about you but I find the 24 hour format of the IARU contest a real
family pleaser...Noone really kills themselves and even if you guest op
someplace you can get home before noon on Sunday. You have your contest
fix...the YL has you back for Sunday.... The "net" guys have few hours of
primetime to play and your boss won't have a tired worker for Monday. Perhaps
the other contest organizers should take note (cept for CQ es ARRL)....

Several fellows are not keeping the FCC notified of their current addresses.
Please make sure you update the FCC every time you move or change mailing
addresses!
I need help with Garth Hitchens, KG7GA. His 1995 certificate came back as
moved, forwarding expired, but his FCC address matches his log address.
Anyone have his new address?
1996 Claimed scores (top 80 both modes) were send to Scott, KA9FOX and will
be in his scores shortly. August CQ should also have scores and will be
out within the next week in the USA.
I am about 25% complete with DX 1995 Certificates and will send them in two
batches to CQ for mailing. First batch is scheduled Wednesday or Thursday (
17 or 18 July).
I have been busy with a client and a major deadline so am behind on plaques.
Paid for plaques will be at Creative Engraving on Tuesday (16 July). Still
working on the 6 unpaid, may be calling on some of you that volunteered for
the $40 sponsorship for 1995 and 1996

I noticed the same thing on 40 meters. They were all supposed to be using
dipoles as I recall, but some signals were booming and some were barely
audible. Probably it's a combination of inherent dipole directivity plus
takeoff angle variation caused by ground proximity. I always used to think a
dipole was a dipole was a dipole. Not any more.
I've always felt that contesting was the best way to really gain a feel for
propagation and station capability. This is just more proof.

An ITU Zone map is located in the Amateur Radio Operating Manual by the =
RSGB. I know its an esoteric source but you asked! On another note has =

Well, I have to put my two cents worth in regarding the WRTC...it was a blast
as far as I'm concerned. And I can certainly see why the teams are the best of
the best...each and everyone one of them deserves kudos and credit for what
they were doing.
As for me, I set a goal of working all teams and making 100+ contacts. I did
both ...in spite the fact that:
(A) I managed to blow the linear up around noon, which I was counting on to get
me through the SSB pileups. Did make 4 phone contacts...rest were CW...
(B) I missed the 10m opening...rats...
(C) And no packet. Looking at the msgs today, it was obvious that most of the
world had packet. However, the DX cluster network in Houston has been down for
the last couple of weeks. Both of the major nodes have not been talking to each
other, and they have not been connected to the rest of the world (last WWV
posting on one of them was July 7). And when I checked late Friday night, it
was still the same.
But I still met my goals although I'm sure I won't win the Zone 7
plaque...<grin> but hey...qrn, qrm, 100w, no packet, pileups, and high speed
CW....it was exhilerating...
Thanks to the WRTC teams for a good time...and congrats on a job well done to
the WRTC teams and organizers.
