Although I've never seen a ground system using copper
tubing, there's no reason why you can't use it. The reasons
that you don't seen it used is due to it's difficulty when
working with it (bending it, etc.), bonding and its cost. If
you consider the surface area of the copper strap, that would
be the minimum for the copper tube as well. The other point
is that although it is easy to silver solder, one good
lightning surge will melt the solder and there goes your
nifty ground system. Exothermic bonding methods for ground
systems such as CadWeld are designed for copper wire or strap
and not tubing.
The Polyphaser grounding book has its good points (well
researched, practical applications) and its not so great
points (emphasis on commercial applications and not much for
amateur installations.)
And yes, this will make a great topic for "Up The
Tower." As they say, stay tuned for further developments.

Subject: Energy Booster during contest?

My wife was recently introduced to a product through her work that I think
has some great potential for CONTESTERS. It's a natural herbal
energy-booster in liquid form and is taken by mixing a few drops with
juice. It seems to be a much better alternative to "no-doze" tablets or
even the caffeine in soda, as you don't get the bad side-effects.
I've been taking the drops in the morning before work and I must say it
does give me a tremendous lift, especially for a guy that has never been a
morning person! I haven't had a chance to try them in a contest yet,
however I will be taking some with me when I go to TG for ARRL DX SSB.
Since I'm anxious to see if these energy drops will work in a contest
situation, I'm wondering if any of you would be willing to try the energy
drops during the ARRL DX CW contest? If interested, drop me a note. I'll
let everyone know how it goes after I get back from TG.

Like ramirezk@emi.com, I, too, heard lots of very strong sigs calling cq
in the DX window during 160 cw test. They just wipe out the chance of
hearing the dx that I could detect between their dots, but not decode (dx
that they had either worked or could not hear!).
I don't mind folks calling cq, but when the cq-ing is netting zero for
a long period of time, the calling becomes just qrm for the rest of us.
Auto keyers are too easy to activate. Please, guys, LISTEN, after a
series of ten to twenty minutes of futile cq-ing.
Lots of sigs doing this means little to no band left for other
contesters, reducing the contest overall.
