This is a clip from a direct Email... He was questioning that the guy
assembly brackets for his 45G don't seem to grip the tower legs, causing all
the pressure to bear on the cross bracing...I thought the list might find
this of interest...

On the guy clamps... Mine (25G tower) clamp the tower legs reasonably firmly,
although I install them sitting on the cross braces.... The idea is to
distribute the guy pressure to all the tower parts, to avoid overloading a
leg tube and buckling it... How loose are yours? If really sloppy, there is
a problem and I would talk to Rohn....
Interestingly, there seems to be considerable dimensional variation in their
tower sections...I just installed an Orion 2800 rotator and it would not slip
down inside the tower... I talked to M2 and they were not aware of any
problem... They have sections of 25G in the factory and that rotor slides the
full length of a section without binding...I called Rohn and they were
unconcerned... "Just bend the bracing until it fits.", they said...... I had
to use a large pry bar and bend the diagonal braces > 3/8", leaving them
permanently distorted, to get the rotor to drop down a rung...Hanging at 150
feet and wrenching on a pry bar hard enough to buckle and distort the tower
which is holding you aloft, does not tend to improve ones vocabulary...

LIKES: smooth and powerful... has ramp start/stop which is programmable...
complete speed controls.... presets... RS232 interface...the worlds best mast
clamp... made in the USA !!!!!
DISLIKES: I find the key stroke sequences for programming to be non
intuitive...should have an analog directional pointer to complement the
digital readout...
FINAL SCORE: I like the M2 O-2800 P rotor... Worth every penny....

K4JPD looses 80m 2 el beam with 160 feet of rohn 45 tower and numerous side
mounted antennas and looses second tower with 40m 3 el telrex to Opal....
WB4ZNH looses 20m 5 el KLM and 130 feet rohn 45........
WP2A looses 130 feet rohn 25 with KT34XA and 2 el 40m cushcraft....

Hi Bill
I contacted the insurance company that writes my homeowner's policy and
asked them to verify that I was covered for vandelism against my towers and
antennas. Further more, if they came down, I wanted them covered for full
replacemnt value, including professional labor to put them back up. Becasue
I was asking for more than the normal coverage, they wrote a rider for the
normal policy and for a nominal extra charge, I got a lot of extra
insurance. I don't really know if I am covered for natural disasters like
wind or earthquake but it sounds like I should find out.

Bill, sorry to hear about the damage. Since you remarked on the "
guys on the West side of town" here's a summary. All towers survived
with no damage. But #1 tower popped 5 guys!! It's leaning a little to
the S. Other two OK except 5-10 is missing 1 element. and 2 boomer
above that pretty much gone. So much for the good news. I lost 5
hardwoods ranging from 50 to a beautiful 100+ oak which is leaning at
about a 45 degree angle caught in another large oak. You love this,
your boom material is directly under the tree!! Going to try to move
it tomorrow. ( the boom material ) Honestly don't know how I'm going to
get that tree down. It needs a boom truck but no access to that part of
the property. Bridge over my large creek took quite a bit of erosion.
At one time, about 4 acres were flooded.
Sorry to hear about Steve.
P.S. Substained winds here were 69 mph.
