This is a clip from a direct Email... He was questioning that the guy
assembly brackets for his 45G don't seem to grip the tower legs, causing all
the pressure to bear on the cross bracing...I thought the list might find
this of interest...
******************************************************************************
****

On the guy clamps... Mine (25G tower) clamp the tower legs reasonably firmly,
although I install them sitting on the cross braces.... The idea is to
distribute the guy pressure to all the tower parts, to avoid overloading a
leg tube and buckling it... How loose are yours? If really sloppy, there is
a problem and I would talk to Rohn....

Interestingly, there seems to be considerable dimensional variation in their
tower sections...I just installed an Orion 2800 rotator and it would not slip
down inside the tower... I talked to M2 and they were not aware of any
problem... They have sections of 25G in the factory and that rotor slides the
full length of a section without binding...I called Rohn and they were
unconcerned... "Just bend the bracing until it fits.", they said...... I had
to use a large pry bar and bend the diagonal braces > 3/8", leaving them
permanently distorted, to get the rotor to drop down a rung...Hanging at 150
feet and wrenching on a pry bar hard enough to buckle and distort the tower
which is holding you aloft, does not tend to improve ones vocabulary...

Cheers .. Denny

PS... RE the O-2800 P

LIKES: smooth and powerful... has ramp start/stop which is programmable...
complete speed controls.... presets... RS232 interface...the worlds best mast
clamp... made in the USA !!!!!

DISLIKES: I find the key stroke sequences for programming to be non
intuitive...should have an analog directional pointer to complement the
digital readout...

FINAL SCORE: I like the M2 O-2800 P rotor... Worth every penny....

Bill, KM9P asks:

Hi Bill

I contacted the insurance company that writes my homeowner's policy and
asked them to verify that I was covered for vandelism against my towers and
antennas. Further more, if they came down, I wanted them covered for full
replacemnt value, including professional labor to put them back up. Becasue
I was asking for more than the normal coverage, they wrote a rider for the
normal policy and for a nominal extra charge, I got a lot of extra
insurance. I don't really know if I am covered for natural disasters like
wind or earthquake but it sounds like I should find out.

I would appreciate if anyone could send me an Internet address for VK9NS, if
one
exists. Please send to me direct and thanks in advance! I would also
appreciate a
telephone number for Jim.

Does that mean you will be signing K6LL/6 :-)

Bill, sorry to hear about the damage. Since you remarked on the "
guys on the West side of town" here's a summary. All towers survived
with no damage. But #1 tower popped 5 guys!! It's leaning a little to
the S. Other two OK except 5-10 is missing 1 element. and 2 boomer
above that pretty much gone. So much for the good news. I lost 5
hardwoods ranging from 50 to a beautiful 100+ oak which is leaning at
about a 45 degree angle caught in another large oak. You love this,
your boom material is directly under the tree!! Going to try to move
it tomorrow. ( the boom material ) Honestly don't know how I'm going to
get that tree down. It needs a boom truck but no access to that part of
the property. Bridge over my large creek took quite a bit of erosion.
At one time, about 4 acres were flooded.

Sorry to hear about Steve.

P.S. Substained winds here were 69 mph.

Contesters are supposed to be literate! Please excuse me, but I
just can't take it anymore.

TO: Forward; belong with; resulting in.
I'm going TO 20. This frequencey belongs TO me. This is going
TO violate the rules . TO be, or not TO be.

TWO: The whole number between 1 and 3. I contest on TWO meters.
TWO antennas are better than one.

TOO: In addition; likewise, excessive.
This TOO shall pass. I'm running, are you running TOO? This
pileup is just TOO much to handle. It's TOO bad you got DQ'ed.

YOUR: Possessive of you. Is this YOUR frequency? Is it YOUR turn
to run? YOUR program just crashed. YOUR rate is too slow.

YOU'RE: Contraction of YOU ARE. YOU'RE right, the band is dead. YOU'RE
going to miss the long path opening on 40! YOU'RE the best op
        I know.

HERE: In this place; now. HERE is a clear spot.

HEAR: To use your ears. Do you HEAR the JT1 anywhere?

NO: Opposite of yes; not any. NO, I didn't work zone 40 yet. NO lid
is going to take my frequency.

KNOW: To be aware of, familiar with, skilled in; to perceive as truth.
        I KNOW I'm good. I KNOW K7SS and K2SS. I KNOW how to make a 4:1
balun. I KNOW that IG9 counts as a multiplier.

KNEW: Past tense of KNOW. He KNEW how to assemble a multi/multi station.

NEW: Opposite of old. This guy must be NEW at this. I'm looking
        for some NEW hardline.

****'s: Possessive form used with a noun. John'S tower is big. The beam'S
pattern is all messed up. PED'S software is very smooth.

****s: Plural form of a singular unit. Two rigS are better than one.
All my beamS got trashed in the storm.

ITS: Possessive form of IT (no apostrophe!). ITS features are really cool.

IT'S: Contraction of IT IS (not possessive). IT'S a great run. IT'S
        going to be stinko propagation.

LOSE: Fail to win. Misplace; cease to have possession of. I'm going
to LOSE this contest. Put the connector in your pocket or you
        might LOSE it.

LOSS: That which is lost. Did you hear that his tower came down? What
a LOSS. What is the power LOSS of that coax? He suffered severe
antenna and tower LOSSes in that last storm.

LOOSE: Free; slack; not tight; not firmly fixed. This connector is
very LOOSE. He's pretty LOOSE with his comments. Boy, that KR2Q
        must have a screw LOOSE!

THERE: In, at, to, toward, or into that place; that place, position, or
point. The stack will go over THERE. THERE should be a way to
        use internet during the contest.

THEY'RE:Contraction of THEY ARE. THEY'RE going to help put up the stack.
        THEY'RE 100 q's ahead of us on 10 meters.

THEIR: Possessive of 3rd person, plural. THEIR idea of running is 100
per hour. THEIR amp loafs along at 1 KW. THEIR ability on 20m
        is not to be believed.

[all together]: They're going to use their best ability to move the beam
        over there.

I know we all make typographical errors, but some of the stuff posted
here is embarrassing. If you can remember that VK6 is in zone 29,
you can remember this simple stuff!

Eye cant weight two sea you're read I's and here you're flames. Eye
no its going too bee good; new it awl a long!
