Thanks to all that responded to my ? Looks like most preferred the
Heil models with their associated foot switch but there were some
homebrewers that had created their own concoction.

Contesters!
The following survey is an attempt to gather data purtenant to
two questions of interest:
1. What's a db worth? (Hence the name).
2. Can a handicapping system for contesting be devised?

Please consider your performance in either CQWW or ARRL contests
in the last 4 years. You may report results from more than one
contest, but please make separate copies of the survey for each
contest. Consider only 20, 15, or 10 meter band operations only.
Report results for each band separately. Make your best
estimates for quantities of which you are unsure.
All levels of operator and station performance are needed to make
the data significant, so little pistols and big guns alike are
invited to participate.
Note that rather than analyzing by entry class, the results will be
normalized by hours of operation on each band.
This data will be statistically analyzed. If the results are conclusive,
they will be reported. What will make this most meaningful will
be the inclusion of a large amount of data, so please take as
much time as you can to report as many operations as you can.
1. Contest type: CQWW___ ARRLDX___
2. Year (1994-1990):
3. Mode: CW___ SSB___
4. For each band listed, please report the following:
a. QSO's
b. MULT's
c. Total hours of operation on each band.
d. Boom length of primary antenna used on each band.
(If using non-yagi antenna, please specify type).
e. Height above ground of primary antenna used.
f. Overall Solar Conditions. Rate on scale of 1-5, where 5 is Above
Average, 2 is Poor, 1 is Disturbed.
g. PEP (output) power used on each band.
h. Geographic Location. (W1, ZK3, etc).
i. Any other circumstances you feel would be relevant to the accuracy
of this survey.
