Well, we didn't do anything except shack set up before the contest. How
about installation of Ring rotor on Saturday at 100ft and completing the
construction of a 6 element 10 meter beam on Sunday. By Sunday afternoon, it
just didn't seem worth it to put it up.
Anyone know the effects of 1500 W @ 7Mhz on the human body
from about 30 feet away? I've been having these odd migraine headaches since
Saturday nite.
Thanks all for your contacts. See ya next year.

Several posters and emails have wondered what I meant when I wrote:
>> So why have the big contest clubs never "done" Field Day?
I guess I was too brief, so I'll expand. Field Day can be "done" at many
different levels but the second object (according to the ARRL announcement)
is to improve emergency perparedness. There seems to be a consensus that a
good contest operator is also a good emergency operator. My opinion is that
the big contest clubs have backed off from the recruiting and training of
new operators aspect of Field Day because we don't have enough fun at it.
Thus to "do" Field Day in this context meant to have our contest club
sponsor a competition with emphasis on the new operators.
All comments expressed agreement that field day should remain as is.
To rekindle interest for both groups, Dave, W6QHS, has suggested a
competition within a competition with 1-2 multiop transmitters and sections
as multipliers. I suggested we add a rule that 50% of the operator hours be
from new operators, and that the Big Contest Clubs (BCCs) "do" the event by
participating in a Field Day group and posting their results (including
multipliers) here and in NCJ.
Glenn, N3BDA, summarized the most effective motive:
>If you like feeding your ego, there's no better ego-builder than a bunch of
>new hams admiring you and forever remembering who helped them on their first
>Field Day! With any luck, they'll be knocking at your door in the CQWW DX
>contest some day!
So how about about it, PVRC, YCCC, FRC, etc. Any interest?

Starting with the 1994 contests, CQ WPX logs can be submitted via e-mail
on the internet.
The e-mail address is: sdb@ag9v.ampr.org.
Logs must be in ASCII format with all of the required information. The log
should be unformatted and space delimited. For those using "CT",
WRITEARRL or AK1AFORMAT will produce a file that is acceptable. Other
popular logging programs should produce unformatted ASCII files in a
similar format. A summary sheet and a sorted prefix list are also
required. Please include a phone or fax number where you can be reached.
If electronic submission is well received, it will be continued in the
future. This address is for CQ WPX Logs only.

No, (opps) I forgot to delete the attachments after sending the log to CQ.
My apologies to the entire reflector.

Now wait just a minute here. I must have really missed the boat in this
one. Marty states above that he was at home. How do you sign as a portable
anything from your home. This is no flame at Marty but a question about
the rules of the contest. I am advanced in NC. If I do what he did then
next year I can sign KX4/WA4ZXA. I don't know if that would fly or not, but
it seems the same as what Marty did. I just picked the KX4 as it fits the
advance callsigns. I would like someone explain this one.

I expect most of you to delete this right now, but let me ask:
"What has happened to our dupe-checking!?!?!"
This is practically an exact repeat of the discussion from the week
following the phone weekend. Check the FAQ on how to read the
archive for a more gorey rehash. (try 28-29-30 March 1995)

You did. Different DXCC country. Rules below. You can sign that.
You will be DQed. Explanation below.
Shamelessly copied from Bruce WA7BNMs post on 29 March 1995.
BNM>The WPX rules as published in the Feb 1995 CQ state:
BNM>A station operating from a DXCC country different from that indicated
BNM>by its callsign is required to sign portable. The portable prefix must
BNM>be an authorized prefix of the country or call area of operation. In
BNM>cases of portable operation, the portable designator would then become
BNM>the prefix. Example: N8BJQ operating from Wake Is. would sign
BNM>N8BJQ/KH9 or KH9/N8BLQ, and KH6XXX operating from Ohio would not sign
BNM>/KH8 which is normally assigned to American Samoa, but could sign /W8,
BNM>/N8, /K8, etc., or any other prefix authorized for use in the US 8th
BNM>district.
He can sign portable becuase he is in a DIFFERENT DXCC country,
namely Hawaii. This is why last year the JA's in W7 could sign
AJ7/JA#??? or whatever, wheras regular US hams have been DQed in the
past for signing something wierd like KQ1/AA1AA. (But KQ1/KH6CP
would have been OK.)

420 Qso's, 235 Muls => 220.000, raw score
Previous Word/EU 160m WPX CW record was 132k by LY*
Equipment/antennas:
4 bevarages: East/350m, NE/240m, NW/240m, W/240m
trianguar loop for transmitting
IC751A, PA using QB 05/1750
Comments:
=========
K1ZM was 579 all first night, but only few (~4) others from US came
through. VE1ZZ very strong. Second night/morning I worked several US
stations(~15), some very strong, the strongest was N3RS I think with
599+20dB. Saturday and Sunday evening I had very strong receiving QRN
resulting from storms in central/nothern Europe Alp region. I was
just on the boundary with no rain. During those hours conditions were
good for EU, but impossible for receiving. After 2100 GMT band became
acceptable quiet with better rate.
No JA's, not sure if I missed them or conditions were poor to JA.
Expect more G stations, but a lot of DL's increase score number.
I was appox. 2 hours: 1/2 hour at the start and 1 1/2 hour in
the Sat evening QRT during the opening hours due to ampl. failure.
Overall: 20 hours/420 Qso's = 20 Qso/hour average, very hard to stay in
contest with so low rate.
I THANK S52CD FOR LENDING ME HIS INSTALATIONS FOR WPX CW CONTEST.

We must be living right or something. Didn't have to shut down the station
due to thunderstorms even once during the weekend. From the qrn on 80,
it's evident that someone had to shut down! Bands kind of flip-flopped from
last year. Started out quite poor the first day, improving the second.
This is the first effort in CW WPX M/S for this group.
1741 Qs X 698 mults = 3,372,038 pts
Ops - NJ4F, N4GUS, K5IMC (or some such Texan call) and K7SV. Oh yeah, N1VF
and N14F (nice pfx) must have been there too using their own calls. At
least a number of station thought so. I certainly better appreciate N4BO's
plight!
Rig - TS940 - Titan - 80/sloper 40/3el@100' 20/5el@80' 15/5el@60' triband
quad at 50'. Beverages
80 was pretty noisy, 40 played real well except for the hash that K3ZO
documented, 20 played well, 15 sounded about like 10 was last year, 10
opened up Sunday into Africa and S/A. Heard HG73DX and 9A1A but no Q.
HG73DX had 4F but never got the rest of the pfx.
