Ah, the subtleties of what most people think are clear rules. I would
like to hear from CQ on this one, too. My reading is that the rules
say operating time is limited to 36 hours -- they don't say off time
has to be 12 hours. On the other hand, if you look at the sample
summary sheet, it asks you to list off times and has a row labelled
"total" for the off time. I'm glad I always make a rule of operating
the last 2 hours of a 48 hour contest so I don't have to worry about
it.
