Can anyone suggest an QWK-compatible offline reader that can handle
more than 25 characters in the reply address field? I've tried Bluewave,
Speed Read, and Offline, but none of these seem to allow you to change
the address length. My bbs sysop couldn't help.

How about improving the number of people who will apply by eliminating
some of the paper work. I went to my local police station to ask them
for proof that I live here and they couldn't help me.

While each FCC/FOB (Field Operations Bureau) is different to
some extent, I have to say that the one in Denver seems to be a gem.
As the TC for Colorado, I work with them a lot. In one memorable
case, an amateur got into telephones and CATV systems. A neighbor
complained vociferously about it and some checking ensued. The
typical response from the Denver FOB is "The complainant and the
amateur must cooperate in order to reach a solution." The complainant
was unwilling to cooperate in *any* way. The only acceptable soultion
was for the amateur to cease operations. The FCC didn't support that
position and said so.
She wrote her Congressman, who called the Denver office. The
Congressman's staff got the history and the same story: until the
complainant cooperates, nothing will change and nothing will get
better. The Congressman was satisfied (they'd checked into it, just
like they said they would) and the amateur still operates. He was
couselled by me and the FCC to be intolerant of harassment: if they
continued to call him and be abusive while he operated (they had a
history of this) he was to call the DA and file harassment charges.
He did call the DA to see if, in fact, he could do this and the DA
said "Of course; you don't have to put up with being harassed!"
In the Colorado Section, we've worked hard to forge such a
good relationship with the FCC and it's paid off. In one case, we
found that a ham had a dirty signal and in another case the amateur
was uncooperative, but the FCC recognizes that these are rare events;
they don't abandon us, at least in the Denver region!
Work with the FCC; offer to work with the neighbors to find
out what filter applications might solve the problem; call your
section's TC and get a third party to help out. Often this isn't an
exercise in technological soultions as much as conflict resolution.
While I never recommend that anyone buy their neighbors filters (it
can get ex$pen$ive because soon *everyone* will want one) it's
perfectly reasonable to have a few on hand so you can demonstrate what
works and then help them locate a source. It's OK to help install
filters, but I never recommend that someone get inside another's
equipment. If *anything* goes wrong now or in the future, it'll be
your fault!

Well being a "Net Manager" 'NM' isn't high up in the heirachy(?)
in the ARRL nor is "Offical Relay Stations" 'ORS'. It seems they chose
most of what seems important to them...After all it is "THEIR EVENT".
By the way if you worked N7IXG during the 1st 3 days or you know someone
who did and you/they don't have me as a /125 please make the correction
as I am a Net Manager. I'm trying to re-contact those on the air, but you
can get everybody.
