Subject: 2 or 3 dB not worth it ?
Message-ID: <9403112237.AA05137@bighorn.dr.att.com>
Tom, WB4IUX says ...
However, for all this cost and trouble I don't think the 2 to 3
db of forward gain is worth it. I have missed NOTHING on ...
-------------------------------------------------------------
I personally feel when it comes to working EU on 40 meters from Colorado
(especially 40 meter phone), 2 or 3 extra dB makes a significant difference
between hearing "N2IC, You're 59 15" and "CQ Contest .... from Italy Three...".
However, if you have the luxury of putting up more tower sections, extra
height may buy you that 3 dB a little cheaper than extra boom/elements.
Then again, going from 2 to 3 elements may be cheaper...
Just my perception ....
