I know it's a little late to be posting this, but I have been very busy.
The CQ 160 CW test last weekend was my first real attempt at contesting.
I had dabbled a bit here and there, mostly looking for new countries etc,
but never really participated or tried to make a score.
Thanks to reading this reflector, and to some coaching from a local
contest type (thanks AA4NU), I got interested enough to give it a try.
I used to sit back and wonder why anyone would ever want to contest?!?
Now I find myself looking forward to doing it again!
The station: Icom IC-761
AL-811 amp ( 500 watts CW )
160 meter Inverted Vee at 85 feet w/ tuned feeders
The score: 510 QSO's, 1211 points, 70 multipliers, Total: 84,770
I live about 20 miles west of Nashville, TN.
I learned a lot, including that fact that contesting is SERIOUS FUN.
Hope to try it again.

How long should a folded dipole made from 450 ohm ladder line (VF=.9) be:
A- 468/F
B- 468/F X VF
C- 468/F with shorting stubs at 468/F X VF
I have never heard a reasonable explanation and am curious. I tried to
duplicate the Multi-Tee antenna in the ARRL Antenna Book. Never worked on
160 or 80, but worked fine on 40.

Hi Billy, I for one like the 'new' style of listings. My only suggestion
would be: Add one more column to the 'box' lists with the two
letter state abbreviation, so you'd have call score class and
state (within the region). For example: KB1GW 1020 B CT
The state just adds one column yet gives alot of specific

I was amazed at the number of replies I got - about 70. Rather than
bore everyone with copies of comments, I can summarize it by saying
the VAST majority of replies QSL all cards received.
Several suggested QSLing every contest QSO, that way you don't have
to bother looking at incoming cards.
May use CT. Many others import into DXBase or another logging pgm
for producing labels.
Most who answered the question "does NOT QSLing decrease contest rates"
felt that it did. Some even mentioned that during the contest, stations
would comment "how come no reply to my QSL?" (This reminded me that I
have done the same thing to FR5DX!)
Only one reply from a multi-multi op saying they don't QSL.
Another very active contester said he got too far behind and it became
too expensive.
