I would disagree. I would say for the most part there are very few efforts
from the west coast. Last year WN4KKN was 2nd place in WPX Phone. He beat
alot of east coast stations. Same can be said for KI3V/7 in ARRL 2 years
ago. He won S/O Assisted. Let's face it, you can't win if don't try! My
hats off to AA6TT, K0RF, N2IC, W0UA, W0UN and all of the other guys in Colo.
who are in their doing it every contest no matter what!
I agree that ARRL & CQWW are not west coastable contests, but IARU & WPX are
DX contests that can be won from anywhere in the country at some point in the
sunspot cycle.

i think that Scott, Jim and others missed the point of km9p's
orignal posting on the WPX contest. he and i are not whinning
about contests in general - we are complaining about the fact
that the WPX contest used to be a 30 hour contest for the
single op. in fact this was one of the *great* features
of this contest. (lots of positive soapbox about the length)
several years ago the WPX was changed to a 36 hour format
for single op. this (IMHO) changed this contest for the worse.

If you want to win, you will. Maybe not the first time but you will
get better. I know! Ive said this for 8 Years since moving to
Nevada. And that one special weekend in ARRL DX Phone it all came
together when I op'ed at NZ7E's. #1 S/O Assisted. What was funny is
that there was no special mention in the write-up of what a West Coaster
had done. I am glad to see now that the top West Coast op's are getting
credit in the write-ups! Thanks Billy!

Well, we could help solve the problem by increasing the exposure for the
high scoring West Coast participants. It isn't fair that the entire USA
is combined into one Top Ten listing. I would be all for a USA Top Ten
by Zone (3,4,5) or by Time Zone (for ARRL contests). It would give the
western guys something to have fun with.

According to WO1G, the June VHF Contest has been moved one week earlier
than usual to the first weekend in June (instead of it's normal spot on
the second weekend). I bring this up for two reasons.
* If you are into VHF you should know about it!
* The reason for the date change.
According to KR1R at ARRL HQ, the date was moved so as not to conflict
with the ARRL National Convention which will be held in Dallas the 2nd
weekend of June. Now this convention, HamCom, has always been the second
weekend of June and it did not affect the contest. Why move the contest
just because of the ARRL National? Have contests been moved before just
because of the National Convention?
I must admit that moving the VHF contest is not a real big deal in this
case (unless you had made very early reservations for you favorite
mountain top and now have to scramble). But I am a bit concerned about a
future conflict with one of the big contests. Who decides this stuff?
And when it is necessary, what steps are taken to notify the contest
community in a timely manner?
