After seeing so much mail flash by re: the callsign situation in the US I
couldn't help but wade in. As Derrick, VE4VV ( The Other half of the VE4
"Killer Vees" ) has stated, we too in Canada could have a callsign shakeup
in the near future. I am sure all of you are aware of the many prefixes
that we have. I recently sat down and waded through all the choices:
VA,VB,VC,VD,VE,VF,VG,CF,CG,CH,CI,CJ,CK,CY,CZ,XJ,XK,XL,XM,XN and XO (whew!)
There has been much talk lately about "Xs" in the call > I don't like em
in the prefix very much, especially with the choice of second letters we
have.
What is the general opinion regarding the call "VE4E ?
(Derrick, I claim first dibs if everyone likes it... besides I was
licensed a year ahead you ) I recall reading somone mentioning contest
Dyslexia. The call has quite an unusual sound to it, quite distinctive (
and maybe irritating !?) Maybe I should ask WC4E.
One thing is for sure, it beats the hell out of the worst call I EVER
used VP2V/VE4GV.. Enuff "vees" for you? ur rprt 5nn pse cl agn ? Arghh!
Should have brought Derrick along that time but there wasn't room for any
more Vees in my suitcase!
I also must concur that "Germany" in the call is not spectacularly
successful. Spanish speaking stations respond much better to "Guatemala
Venezuela"
My vote for best call on CW ...UP5UP that guy is just impossible to wrk.
And Yes Virginia.. They do call it "Zed" in the US when they really
want to be heard. Ah those colonials, will they ever speak the queen's
english ?
Best wishes for a healthy happy new year for all.
AND Santa... Please bring back 10 m soon. I promise to be good.

I suppose I lose even more Brownie points when I admit that I have
never heard of ANY of the songs one of the repliers mentioned as
having been done by the Eagles.
Sigh- I guess I will have to start listening to the local "oldies"
stations (70's-80's) instead of the Bach-Mozart-Beethoven station.

PS- Don't even *think* of posting ham movie stars- I can't
visually identify any of the following....
Julia Roberts
Kiefer Sutherland
Robert Redford
Mike Myers
Demi Moore

1) K0RF is trying to get in to cq-contest from Prodigy and even with
Prodigy's help has not been able to send me a message to my internet
address, although he receives messages from me OK. Can anyone on Prodigy
tell me how to send mail from Prodify to internet so that I can get Chuck
going?
2) I was Joe Walsh's sound man from the latter part of the James Gang era
until part way into his solo career, when I decided it would be more fun
and personally rewarding to be in radio astronomy. (You can get whiplash
just reading my resume!) Actually I owned a sound reinforcement company and
provided sound for many of the groups during the period from 1969-1973. Joe
bought me my first 2M FM rig and we used to have fun operating from hotels
working hams who had tickets for the concert that night. Joe owns a studio
in Memphis (Bob Heil, K9EID keeps close contact with him these days, and I
don't) and seems to be making a killing recycling some of his old rock songs
into beer commercials. **Hi Andy (N2NT) and give my regards to K3FPY! who
was the business manager for the company I worked with when I first got
into rock and roll** For you trivia buffs what was the CW message on
Joe Walsh's Barnstorm album? And if you actually have a copy of this album
(the first one after the James Gang era) you'll find me listed in the
credits!
3) No more general distribution from me about rock and roll, I promise.
Happy holidays John W0UN
