The discussion on headphones brought to mind an unresolved
problem. Last fall I attempted to connect a Heil headset
to my ICOM 745. Yes, I know about the capacitor, and modified
the feedback resistor as recommended by Heil. The results
were disastrous: bad RF feedback problems even with the mike cord
plastered with ferrite beads. The audio level was still weaker
than with the ICOM mike, but it was probably adequate to give
moderate compression. The most damaging problem was the feedback
which gave highly distorted audio. So, the Heil mike is sitting
on the shelf now.
I know many have successfully used Heil mikes with ICOMs. Any
secrets you wish to share?
