POOR analogy.

In the Indy, the Masters, and other similar "top level" endeavors, their
are a limited number of players selected on the basis of previous proven
outstanding performance, and each is a "serious" contender to place in the
top brackets. None are there for the "enjoyment".

If we ran contests on that basis, the contest need not be 48 hours long,
because all the "serious" guys could work each other on every band from DC
to Daylight in about an hour. The serious players need the "Sunday
drivers" on the track in order to score.

The objective of the "24-hour" sub-category is intended to entice the
"Sunday drivers" to take more than just 3 laps around the track, but rather
stay around longer, and add to the scores of the serious players. What is
wrong with a trophy for the "Best Sunday Driver"? Sure doesn't tarnish the
tropy won by the "real" winner.
