K9MA and N2IC have lobbed a couple of grenades at Newington today,
so I feel compelled to answer.
I've been a subscriber to this reflector since its readership
was in the low double digits, if that. However, because I have
a lot more work to do on QST and NCJ than a 40-hour week
accommodates, I don't feel that it's a good use of my time or
ARRL membership dollars to enter every debate that arises. I
don't believe that anyone could benefit much from my adding
more messages to the endless equalized-contest and 24-hour
contest debates. Usually, if I feel a response to a posting
is warranted, I do it via private email. That's often the most
appropriate way to handle it.
And what's this about ARRL policy against reporting bad news?
I'm utterly at a loss to understand this remark, and I'm not
even one of the policymakers who might be expected to hide
bad news!
As for our "silence": Lots of HQ staff members are on email,
and actively use it--including the QST Editor and Publisher.
For those who may not have seen this before (it's posted regularly
and conspicuously on rec.radio.amateur.misc), I've appended the
latest list, complete with email addresses and (condensed) job
functions.
