Hey Bob,

Pre distortion is to reduce distortion like IMD.
The glitch resistor protects the tube when its arcs and soft start prevents
the circuit breaker from tripping.

I never used electrolytic capacitors in my HV power supplies, only metal
paper and never insane high capacitance values which will provide nothing.
If there was any benefit from doing so, I guess the commercial manufacturers
did like Jim.
My single phase Gates with 4CX3000A is using 12µF + 4H choke input and is
specified with noise being 56dB down from full output.
My R&S SK1 single phase transmitter with RS1072C is using a CLC power supply
with 9µ capacitors and two 4H chokes in series, noise is down more then 55dB
by specification.

I use 2µF with my 3-phase power supply, 16µF with a single phase one.

Nice job.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm an old fart but novice amp constructor.
If amp is to be used strictly with a modern exciter that employs
"pre-distortion", I can do away with a lot of filter capacitance. Then no
need for soft start and glitch protection, if needed at all, will not need
to be as stout.

Considering for my 6m amp project using a gs35b. Also, plan to use metal
film caps in the supply. Very low ESR, self healing, don't dry out, and are
becoming competitive with electrolytic caps, thanks to electric vehicles
use.

Again, nice job on the supply. Wood is great! I've used with a microwave
oven transformer supply. Applied polyurethane so no worries about moisture.
