[Yaesu] ceramic filter problem in FT897/857

I have recently come across a couple of stories concerning the Murata Ceramic 
filter needing to be replaced in the Yaesu FT857 and the FT897.  Was this a 
common failure?  Did it occur for most of these rigs, or only in a certain 
serial number.  In this case, it was in Pre-D models.  Also, is the display 
failure getting to be fairly common in this rigs?
