Dear Jeff,
Here is a plan:
Plug some headphones in.
Does the audio improve?
Get a 1/8" stereo male phone plug adaptor for
a stereo amp set.
Plug this cord in the AF OUT jack.
Careful, the volume control does not affect
the level out.
Does the audio improve?
If using cans or the AF jack makes a difference there is
probably a dirty contact in the jack(s). This can be
flushed with a can of contact cleaner and a plug to work the socket.
Verify the audio affecting controls. Go through everything to
see if something was left amiss. It's easy to skip a sparsely-used
control if it was left tweaked.
If nothing else works and it still is nasty, contact Byron, WA4GEG.

Subject: [Yaesu] FT-1000D Audio Distortion
Hi Everyone,
My FT-1000D has recently developed a problem with the received audio.
Sometimes the audio coming from the external speaker gets distorted,
especially with strong signals. This distortion comes and goes, but
seems to be getting more consistent.
It sounds like RF on transmitted audio, but it is on the received audio.
The audio from the speaker is garbled, distorted and very "rough around
the edges". Has anyone heard of this problem or have any ideas? I
thought it might be a NB problem or a problem in the audio driver stage.
Will the NB mod cure this problem? It has never done this since I
bought it new so I am not sure if the mod will help or not.
Thanks in advance.
Jeff Weinberg W8CQ
