I just want to give credit for the "G-mod" which allows the FT-1000
main and sub-receivers to be ganged to the main VFO (encoder)-
to its author Robin, G3TKF. This is a very slick mod that adds a
lot of functionality for one simple DPDT 5V relay. Thanks also to
VE7RF for identifying the designer.
The mod is well within the capabilities of experienced ham builders,
but is probably not for everyone- it is certainly not one that can
be obtained by sending your radio to Yaesu. I will plan to draw out
a schematic and pictorial drawing of my implementation. I came up
with a fully connectorized version, to avoid making any changes to
the radio's internal wiring harness. Since the SPOT switch is used,
one PC board track cut is unavoidable- this is fully reversible by a
simple soldered wire jumper if needed later. For CW ops, the spot
function is also available at the tap of your key, making the SPOT
switch superfluous. Just make sure your VOX switch is off. :o)
I will plan to make these details available later through my web
page in case anyone else is interested in the details.
