I discovered the answer to my question while going through the schematics
today.  The accessory plug on the FT-902DM has a jumper across pins 1&2
which when cut, disconnects the filaments to the 6146 final tubes.  I
imagine that this design practice is carried over to the rest of the product
line from this era.
