I did the hardware mod (removing the solder blob and resistor) which opened the
TX portion of the radio. However, there must be something different in this
newer version because this didn't open up the cell receive like it had done
on an older FT50 I had a couple years back.
The first FT-50's to hit the market had both the european and american bands
in the software. The very first ones if not programed right would go into
european
mode and stay there until the MARS/CAP mode was performed. The factory
corrected
this as soon as it was noted by changing the chip inside the radio. Any radio
from the U.S. sent in because of the lock up; the chip was replaced. All
radio's
at that point coming into the states had the new chip. I don't think any of
the FT-50 coming into the states now can receive Cell.
