I have both of these somewhat similar radios and both radios went back to Yaesu
for service/alignment a few years ago. Yaesu, as a matter of routine service,
replaced all seven (Yes, that's 7) mechanical relays in each rig. I guess the
original relays were prone to failure and/or intermittant operation. Perhaps a
loss of transmit is just a sticky or dirty relay. There are a few relays that
are plugable, perhaps a wiggle or jiggle will make the transmit come back to
life.
Also, on both my FT-901 and FT-902DM radios, Yaesu replaced the plate choke.
Again, perhaps this was a known problem with these radios? The FT-901DM has
the original 6146B tubes whereas the FT-902DM has a set of 6146W tubes. The
power output from the 6146W tubes is almost the same as the 6146B tubes; maybe
a whopping 5 percent or so less which would not make much of a difference at
the receiving end...
Just a thought..
