If you turn off your MONitor function, you'll get a crisp sidetone. With
MONitor turned on, you are getting actual RX monitor audio, which tends to
be clipped off. With monitor off, you get an pure sidetone generator
instead.

Don't know the answer to your question , but I use an FT1000 D and I
have to say the sidetone is not as nice as on an old TS930 I had .
I hasten to add it's not "mushy" just not T9"X" .
Has anyone tried changing things to improve it ??
