Hello to the group,
Some months back there was a discussion on the 757 drifting. I
mentioned that mine also drifted by as much as 600 Hz. Since then I had
the rig aligned and cleaned and it is steady as a rock.
During the discussion a gentleman (sorry, I don't remember who) asked
me whether the 757 drifted as a result of a low battery. I'm assuming he
meant the internal lithium battery as opposed to the power source. Since
I had no experience with the battery going dead, I couldn't give him an
answer then. I would like to report that the lithium battery has NO
bearing on whether the rig drifts or not. My battery died about 10+ days
ago and is still rock solid on frequency. Sure, it's a mess to tune it
and the memories are all gone. But the rig is still quite usable.
I called Yaesu to order a new battery and was told that they were on
backorder and a new stock wasn't expected for another three weeks. That
should be half up now, but I'm still waiting for my order.
Comment on the 757's noise floor: Yes, it is high. I have few
complaints about this rig (my HF requirements are small). But, the noise
floor is disappointing.
