Hi Sandy:
I now wonder if Yaesu would automatically do the PIN diode mod in my
radio when it was sent there back in early winter of 1996?
Also, where can I read about what the PIN diode mod accomplishes?
I am completely happy with the tuning rate on the FT1K-d, but do
appreciate the mentioning of a mod by INRAD.
Thanks.
73s,
Vince

Well ... there are some upgrades (eg PIN diodes, etc) that can be done
by Yaesu ... and there were some fellows who rewired the panel light
DIM switch so that they could switch the amplifier keying line from
semi-vox to full QSK.
The only mod I've made to my FT-1000d was to install the slow-tuning
modification from International Radio down in Florida. It cost 50 bucks
or so .. and I only did it for the main VFO ... but it slows the tuning
rate down from 10KHz/revolution to 2.5KHz per rev.... BUT .. the faster
you spin the dial, the higher KHz/rev rate you'll get ... AND you'll
never notice it jump ... very, very, very smooth.
Cheers
Sandy W7BX
