Bob,

I had a very similar problem with my FT-900 but factory fixed it under
warranty so didn't bother to ask for details. In our conversation
however, they seemed to know about the problem so you might E-mail them.
The FT900 is one of the few units they will do tech-talk with you via
the email setup at their web page.

Re the noise blanker, my FT900 nb works great after changing the value
of R1258 per the Yaesu Technical Bulletin. The Technical Bulletin that
addressed the NB is TB-9521. It changed R1258 from a 10K to a 4.7K.
There are other TB's for the FT-900, but I've only the one for the AM
level. Perhaps others have different TB's on the FT900 they would be
willing to share with us.

Is there a FT900 archieve somewhere?
