Brian,
The amplifier will be available here in november 97. The price
is still unknown. Also is still not clear why the Yaesu-Japan
WEB-site has stopped the access to this item - his on the list,
I saw the page, the pictures and the info but now they are no
more available.
Enclosed here my translation from the WEB page - the flyier
at Dayton was extremely poor.

Importance: High
Hello,
Yaesu - Japan released first pictures and technical specs of their
new 1KW HF/VHF amplifier. It will be the matching amplifier for
the new Yaesu transceiver FT-920 and a natural answer to their
competitor set IC-756 / IC-PW-1. Where is Kenwood ?
The appearance is absolutely different than everything you saw
until now on amateur radio market: it seems to be a cyberspace
object with an extremely large amber backlit very visible LCD display
for about 30% of the RF deck front panel surface. It looks much much
better than the new Icom IC-PW-1 HF/VHF 1KW out amplifier. I only
hope that the performance, spectral purity and his reliability will
match
the outstanding look !
It is composed by two units: VL-1000, the amplifier and automatic
antenna tuner deck and the VP-1000 , the power supply unit.
Few characteristics:
* frequency range: 1.8MHz to 54MHz including all the amateur band
* drive: max.100W
* output power: at least 1KW at 240VAC or 500W at 100VAC
- modes and duty cycle not specified
* RF design: use of unspecified number of Motorola MRF-150
MOSFETs modules at 48VDC
* AC power: 100VAC @ 20A, 240V@15A
* dimmensions: both units 410W x 135H x 410D (mm ).
* weight: VL-1000 15Kg; VP-1000 12kG ( is clearly a switching PS )
* built-in automatic antenna tuner : impedance matching 16.7-150Ohms
@1.8-30MHz; 20-125Ohms @50MHz; insertion loss: max. 0.7dB
* fully automatic with Yaesu Transceivers: FT-900, FT-920, FT-1000(D)
& FT-1000MP
More info and pictures on Yaesu-Japan WEB site ( unfortunately in
japanese only ).
Don't ask me for prices: I only hope they will be close to our budgets !
