Larry:
I don't know if this will help, but after buying my 990 a couple of
years ago, I found my CW was really poor (more so than usual) when
moving between the 990 and my 736. I was convinced there was some
difference between radios, even to my poorly educated fist. So I called
Yaesu, expecting to be laughed at.
Well, it turns out that there IS a difference between these radios
("like Curtis A versus Curtis B", said the Yaesu guy, "and no, you
cannot make them identical by modifying any switches, settings, etc.").
I wonder if what's bothering you is a consquence of the fact that the
two
radios might not be using the same keying logic.....
