I like the MP's better because of the receiver and the versatility. I think
the RX is a little more bulletproof and versatile with the multiple preamps
and DSP. It also has menu selection of a lot of options that are hardwired
with the D. It's also set up for transverters for VHF, which is important to
me. It's a little smaller and lighter...almost suitable for DXpeditioning.

The bad things for the MP are the poor quality LCD display, a transmitter
design which I feel is marginal at best cleanliness-wise and probably not
quite as reliable as the D, which has a great TX design. I also have been
relatively disappointed with product support in the area of updates and bug
fixes for the MP.

D's after sn 28xxxx have almost all mods. However, a lot of older ones out
there have been back to have all the mods done to them. They may still be
doing the mods for free...dunno.

On MP's they really havent made very many modifications of any big
consequence. However after about 04xxxx they cleaned up the hardware a
little bit, adding a transverter on/off switch onto the ALC board, where
earlier they had left it up to the user to add an outboard switch. Newer
units will have a small slide switch on the ALC board (under the top hatch)
for the transverter on/off. Also they added some holes to the bottom cover
to improve air flow/cooling.
