[WriteLog] functions keys sometimes fail to send RTTY messages

In this weekend's CQ WW RTTY contest, I had an intermittent but frequent
problem of function keys failing to send RTTY messages, which could be
cleared by hitting the escape key once or twice. From searching this list
archive, this seems to be a known problem with WL. Is there a fix for this?
