Surprise Surprise!!
I could not really get a normal configuration to work for the FT-891 in
Writelog.
So I have been working on another project and had the occasion to install
OmniRig v1.20. Because I had setup up OmniRig Rig1 as the FT-891 for digital
communications. It occurred to me that perhaps I could use the "Afreet
OmniRig" as the rig type and RIG#1 (defaulted) for the comport in Writelog.
Well I tried it and it worked!! Surprise Surprise! All rig control functions
appear to be fully functional--although I have just gotten it setup. Will have
to try it out perhaps during the CW contest this weekend.
One more questions if anyone can help: In Omni Rig should the DTR and RTS be
set High or Low? I did it both ways, but it really did not seem to mater.

Subject: [WriteLog] FT-891 Rig Control
________________________________________________________________________________
Hi Jim,
I just saw the 12.61 release has ft-891 listed, but I won't get a chance
to work on it until Sunday 26th or later. I'll give you feedback if I
get it going.
It SHOULD have been similar enough to the ft-991 to work with those
settings, but no joy. The yaesu command set for the 891 is a subset of
the 991, but it obviously needed a change to work. [If I recall
correctly, it has been a couple of years since I tried it out]
I will post joy/no joy later, but if you have any hints I'm all ears
about not re-inventing brain sweat.
I also thought to try using N1MM suggested settings, but N1MM provides
finer control on port settings. Not a 1 to 1 cross reference. Perhaps
the settings recommended in the N3FJP docs.
It may also require manually setting the port settings on the computer,
which I have found usually requires a reboot to be picked up by
Writelog,[my shack computer is running win 8.1.]
Will keep you in the loop.
