Have spent the past two evenings working to get CSS setup (HELP)

WIN10 Home
Read CSS setup pages on rttycontesting and the help file in CSS
Those were open as went through steps
Attempted on Two computers, side by side laptop/desktop
Simulator messages appear to be working (connects to writelog OK)
Both Laptop and Desktop setups (not in radio room)
Originally NO com ports in Device manager, no rig, fresh load of software
to setup CSS.
Using VB-Audio Virtual Cable (Not sure if that cable will handle SO2R ???)
First fix:
writelog winkey + OTRSPPipes:
Plugged in USB to serial converter cable to setup one comm port
writelog will fail to setup winkey+pipes without a comm port in service
LAPTOP:
setup for single radio, hear CW from CSS, start writelog, MMTTY
click button to left of entry window.
Enter frequency 3055 and DIG (FSK doesn't exist for manual entry). All
sound from speakers quits.
try this, try that. Sound never returns. nothing on MMTTY display ....
Desktop:
S&P 1 and CQ 0
Tonight: started working by turning off desktop bluetooth....
will start SO2R later....
In setup / help files doesn't mention the "Writelog Sound" app. My guess
is to leave blank for CSS (working as such for Desktop)
