This is very sad new to hear, he was a dear friend to me as well. We did
a CQWW from Canada and won first place in the world. Ron wanted so bad
to set a new record but we failed to reach his goal. I learned what I
know about RTTY contesting from Ron when he was Killer Duck. I hope
someone will post where he passed away and when. I had several calls
from a hospital in Texas at the town used to live, I called it back
several times and didn't know who had called me. If it was from Ron I'm
so disappointed that I didn't get to talk to him.

Nick, w4gkm

There would be no WriteLog today if Ron, who was AB5KD at the time, had
not offered back in 1995 or thereabouts, to take over and manage
WriteLog sales. I remember him better by the phonetics of his previous
call, Killer Duck.

The only operating plaque in my possession was also due to Ron and from
1997. It was #1 in the World-Wide RTTY WPX contest as WU3V/5 at W5WMU
(RIP Pat, as well) along with K5DJ, WSJI, WU3V, W5WMU, K5JZ, K5ET N5SYF,
and K7WM. My job was to keep the WriteLog network up at all the
operating positions (were there 5 or 6 of them?) and call CQ on 10m.

RIP Ron.

Wayne, W5XD

Ron Stailey, K5DJ, has a silent keyboard as reported to me a few minutes
ago by his daughter.

Ron was a RTTY Contester who created the WW RTTY WPX contest with me
while we wrote? for the RTTY Journal.

He also created the RTTY NAQP contest.

Winner of many contests, friend to many of us.? Ron was associated with
Writelog the contesting program for a long time
and got W5XD to add RTTY to his program.

Hopefully someone can cross post to contesting.com as he had many
friends there as well.

I will further info on the services which will be in Texas after the
holiday.
