[WriteLog] Writelog Problems with windows 7

IM new to windows 7 although I have been running writelog for 10 years now. My 
first problem is with recording a voice message for my voice wave files for CQs 
etc. Everytime I try to record a wave file my screen darkens slightly and a 
gear and cog symbol comes on the screen. How can I fix this? Thank-you in
