We can't give Alaska back to the Eskimos. William Seward bought it from
Russia! So, to get it back into Eskimo hands, we would have to resell it
back to Russia and then convince them to give it back to the Eskimos. Of
course the Russians would probably want us to replace all the crude oil and
gold we have removed from Alaska in the intervening years, so that might be
a problem. Or, in typical government fashion, we could sell it back at a
considerable discount, like surplus military equipment!
As for giving Hawaii back to native Hawaiians, it's the same as all the land
west of the Alleghenies. We stole it fair and square!
As for Staten Island, I think if we could get back the original $24 plus
compounded interest, it would be a hell of deal! And with all the Indian
casinos these days, they can afford it! Just ask your favorite Washington
politician.
