I posted a message about this problem after the 160m contest but only got
one reply. After being frustrated by it again this weekend in ARRL DX I'm
posting it again in hope of getting to a good solution.
The problem is that the first character sent from a CW message occasionally
gets corrupted. It appears to happen randomly. I'm using WL ver 10.52D
and the latest version of the K1EL keyer.
It was suggested that I try increasing the PTT to CW delay and/or adding
leading spaces in the CW messages. Adding leading spaces made no
difference. Increasing the PTT to CW delay improved it. With the delay at
100ms it happens about once or twice in every 50-60 times. I don't want to
increase the delay any more, in fact I'd rather cut it back to 50ms or less
but it happens twice as often then. It's very frustrating to finally bust
through in a pile up and then have Writelog blow it!
I know there are a few other folks using the K1EL keyer with Writelog and
they haven't apparently seen the problem. I'm wondering if it's some kind
of timing issue related to rig polling or telnet packet spots etc.
I have no trouble with the K1EL keyer running with DxBase and apparently
the N1MM logger supports the K1EL keyer with no problems I have heard of.
I would appreciate any help on this. Once the N1MM logger incorporates the
rotor control feature I'm considering switching over.
