It is generally risky practice to overwrite WriteLog.ini. Some entries in
the .ini file point to various bits of software that
may not be properly configured in this scenario. WriteLog may exit with an
error message when it is started as a result.
The likelihood of problems increases if one is copying a .ini file created
on a different computer.
The likelihood of problems is reduced if one is copying a .ini file created
earlier on the same machine, with the same port
configurations (radio, internet, etc), keyer, etc. and no changes to the
directory structure for WriteLog files.
This is not to say that it can't be done successfully. A trained eye can
examine a .ini file and remove entries which will cause
problems after copying. Some trial and error will identify entries likely to
cause trouble.

Subject: [WriteLog] Follow up on changing mode
Hi all,
In the Makrothen, I had a problem whereby when I clicked on a spot on the
bandmap, the mode on my IC756Pro was changed to CW.
There were a few oddities, in that when I clicked on a couple of spots
outside the usual RTTY area, the mode didn't change, but I can't remember
whether these were stations I had worked before. This may have prevented the
change of mode, but I can't be sure.
After the Makrothen finished, I started an ANARTS log, and put a few calls
on the bandmap, and they too changed the mode when clicked.
Today, I loaded v10.50 and I have just started a JARTS log in preparation
for the weekend, and that now works fine.
The problem I had with the friend file is now sorted! It must have been an
error on my part somewhere, as the WL INI file had no section to call the
friend file.
I'm not sure how this happened, as after installing WL from scratch, and
then installing v10.49D, I then copied the WL INI file to the C:\Windows
directory, so it should have remained intact.
However, it has been changed in a few places, although it did remember quite
a lot.
Ah well, such is life!
Very best 73
