I have been plagued by computer freezes when Writelog is running with MMTTY, in
various versions. This has been a problem for me with ME, SE and with Win 2000
pro. It has happened when I have disconnected the ptt line and simulated
conditions so I can't blame rf, for once. And it has happened with a bare-bones
startup.
I'm not a computer guru, but I must wonder if the issue is with the way
commands are given to the sound card. When Rttywrite is running to support
MMTTY, could there be a conflict in sound card commands between Rttywrite and
MMTTY? A clue may be that changing the Priority setting to Highest sometimes
solves the problem. Another clue is that all the efforts I've heard of to
solve the problem haven't mentioned this aspect and it may be (ala Sherlock
Holmes) the solution is where no one has looked, at least as far as I know. On
one of my Win 2000 pro machines, when I change demodulator types, everything
freezes for several seconds but that does not happen on another Win 2000 pro
machine, the change over is nearly instantaneous.
Can anyone find out the sort of sound card the MMTTY author was using? Also, I
suggest it would be helpful if those who never have this problem would let us
know what kind of sound cards they have. And finally, it would be a real
service if someone out there that understands the way sound cards are addressed
and commanded could give this some thought.
Thanks for the bandwidth,
