Yes, the PACKET DIN is the best place for AFSK input. Some people have used
the PATCH input because VOX is active for this, whereas it is not for the
PACKET input. However, the PACKET input does have a PTT pin, so you can
hook whatever else you have to that for PTT, i.e. transistor interface etc.
Just press the PKT button (once for LSB) on the front and you should be in
business. It's sort of funny that people with a sophisticated rig like the
1000MP will input their AFSK using the MIC connector! The Packet input
allows narrow filters and lots of options regarding frequency
