Don,
I believe you are correct. When the Plug-in was first introduced
to WriteLog, the AFC would mysteriously come on when it was checked
off in the AFC/ATC/PLL page. I found that the only way to correct
this was to un-check AFC Connection in the Demodulator page and have
been running this way ever since.
However, if you set AFC on for CQ and AFC off for S&P using the
profiles, I believe that works fine. I experimented in a couple of contests
and when you hit the CQ profile, the AFC comes on (if you have it
programmed that way) and when you hit S&P it goes back off and
the Mark tone goes back to 2125 hz. This is the desired result and
I believe the plug-in works this way OK.
I still hear from people that say AFC keeps coming on even though
they have it checked off on the AFC/ATC/PLL page and have not
changed the profile. I believe them because I experienced it myself
on several occasions after the plug-in came out. But I've also seen
posts to the MMTTY reflector that this happens to the stand-alone
version of MMTTY, so it's not a plug-in phenomenon. I can't really
call it a problem since I don't know why it happens. All I know is that
if I uncheck AFC Connection on the Demodulator page and use the
Standard profile (not HAM), that it never comes on which is desirable
for me because I never use AFC with MMTTY as I believe it's not
needed. And I don't have to worry about turning it off when I am
S&P. I go from CQ to S&P in a blink and do not wish to bother having
to remember to turn AFC off or change profiles even if it does involve
just pressing a button with the mouse. Perhaps if there was some sort of
indicator showing which profile was enabled then it would be easier
to keep track of.
The only time I change profiles in MMTTY is to copy fluttery signals. And
I never use AFC. MMTTY is so good that it will copy off frequency signals
that are still with my 250 hz filter's passband. AFC is not needed. One thing
to note though, when a signal is off frequency by a lot but still in the
passband,
MMTTY copies well, but the DXP 38 is better in this situation.
The MMTTY plug-in is a funny deal. I greatly appreciate Jorgen, SM6SRW,
for providing it to WriteLog users. I don't know about other users, but after
I've had the plug-in running for a while (like after a contest), when I close
WriteLog,
the RTTY Control Panel does not close, I get an error message and my computer(s)
lock up and I get the blue screen of death. This happens to both of my PC's
running
Windows 98SE. What I do is try to close the RTTY Control Panel first by
closing the Rttyrite window first. But that does not always work. If I get the
error message, what I try to do is close all programs except the RTTY Control
Panel,
then try to do a CTRL ALT DEL and close the RTTY Control Panel. But this
doesn't always work either. I'm wondering if others have this problem. I'm
thinking they must if it happens on both my PC's. If anyone has a cure to this,
I'd like to hear about it.
Regardless of the locking up problem, I can certainly live with it as MMTTY is
so
good, I can't see ever having to contest again without it.
